A day in the life of Ronan Cahalane

Meet Ronan Cahalane, who joins Access Procure Wizard Ireland in the operations team. Let’s find out more about his day.

Wake up time?

Usually I aim to be up by 6.30am. Plan out my day, double check everything and make sure my travel time is set. I like to be early. After 20 years in hospitality it’s a good habit but one that’s hard to break. A GM once gave me this nugget of wisdom (where he got it, I don’t know but he claimed it was his) “Early is on time, on time is late and late is unacceptable!!” I try to live up to this whenever possible. Of course, and most importantly play Lego with my 3-year-old son – it’s good for the brain and the soul.

What do you have for breakfast?

Unfortunately, against wisdom I tend not to eat breakfast, my morning is started by coffee, good quality coffee – strong, black, no sugar. No frills!! I do like a latte later in the day.

First thing you do when you get into work?

Depending on where my schedule takes me, be it the office or to a customer I always start with a big friendly hello. I like to keeps things friendly and professional. I don’t do grumpy – not outwardly anyway. No matter where you are the people you deal with have to be your priority. Everyone is busy and its easy to forget other people are under pressure too. Then I look at my plan for the day and start ticking off my tasks.

What project(s) are you working on?

I am currently working on a number of different projects. One of the things I like most about working as part of the Access Procure Wizard team is the diversity of the projects. None are the same, all provide their own challenges and rewards. Choice Hotels has been a very satisfying project for me, everyone I have met in the group has been really committed and excited to get started with Access Procure Wizard. That can also be said of my other projects – its great working with customers who are excited to see you.

Silence, radio or Spotify in the background when you’re working?

If I am at home its Spotify, I listen to a wide range of music but while I like to think my taste is eclectic, my wife would have a very different opinion. Hence when I am anywhere other than my own office or in my car, I keep my music to myself. When I am in the car, I tend to consume a large number of sports podcasts. Advantage of being on the road.

Favourite work colleague?

Que the cliché – how could I pick one really? – does anyone ever name someone there? Seriously though it is the single best part of working with Access Procure Wizard. After only a relatively short time you feel like part of close-knit family. Love it!

What’s the best bit about your job?

It would be very hard to pick one best bit – it really is a combination of things. In fact, there are too many bits too mention and even if I tried, I would inevitably forget something. Needless to say, I count myself lucky to work with such a friendly and professional group of people, doing great work, with a product that I really wish had been available to me throughout the years.

Packed lunch or take out for lunch?

The majority of the time it is take out – one of the advantages to being out and about with our customers is the array of amazing offerings that they are providing. This country and our customers have come a long way over the last years. Ireland has a food culture now that rivals anywhere in Europe or further afield. The fun part is getting out there and finding it.

Favourite thing about working for PW

Without wanting to repeat myself – it’s the people – the team I work with are professional, friendly, welcoming, warm and damn good at what they do. Makes for a really cool place to work.

How would your work mates describe working with you?

This is one of those questions that’s very hard to answer – Hopefully, as friendly, professional, and generally better to have around than not? That’s the big one really.
